junk harmony
Emerging from the forgotten corners of computer hard drives, Junk Harmony is a band that defies conventional origins. Their music is born from the discarded and the overlooked, with songs that were recorded, stored, and left to languish until the right moment. Comprising talented individuals from a range of local Adelaide musical backgrounds including Siamese, Twine, The Empty Threats, and Big Town; Junk Harmony has seamlessly woven their diverse experiences into a cohesive musical tapestry.
What sets Junk Harmony apart is not just their music, but the palpable sense of camaraderie and familiarity they bring to the stage. The band's live performances exude an endearing family-like presence that resonates with audiences, creating an intimate and inviting atmosphere. Their signature sound can be described as trashy mid-fi rock that carries the power to envelop the room in warmth and energy.
Having made their debut on the music scene with a self-titled EP in April of the preceding year, Junk Harmony demonstrated their distinct sonic identity. The release was met with enthusiasm from fans and critics alike, with the band receiving praise from Rolling Stone Australia, as well as picking up support slots for acts such as West Thebarton, Andy Golledge, and Maple Glider.
'a2b', their subsequent release, took listeners on a journey into frontman Tom Matheson’s innermost thoughts, confessions, and frustrations. Jangly guitars intertwined with precise drumming, guiding the tracks toward their inevitable conclusions. Recorded across various locations, the album stripped away any veneer to reveal Junk Harmony at their most naked and exposed. Anxieties became the centerpiece of the music, lending a raw authenticity to their sound.
Junk Harmony is Tom Matheson, Alicia Salvanos, Matt Schultz, Madeleine Cossey, and Eamonn Hayes Goldsmith.
